Scope of Work: Collect Earth Deforestation Assessment Consultant
 
Period of Performance: Up to 120 hours between February 13th and March 17th, 2023
Reporting to: Meyru Bhanti, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist
Number of Positions: Up to Four (4)
Scope
The Consultant(s) will work with the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to analyze imagery throughout Malawi to assess land cover transitions and apply a Collect Earth methodology to quantify deforestation. The Consultant(s) will work on the following tasks:
  • Attend an initial, virtual training for the deforestation assessment provided by the GIS Specialist
  • Analyze imagery following the standard operating procedures provided in Collect Earth
  • Maintain clear timelines and work independently
  • Availability for weekly meetings with the GIS Specialist
Specific Deliverables for the period February – March 2023
  • Conduct visual interpretation of satellite imagery to identify instances of deforestation
  • Maintain a database/spreadsheet of observations, ensuring entries are error free
  • Proactively work with the GIS Specialist to resolve ambiguities in assessment of imagery
Consultant Qualifications and Background
Education: Bachelors degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, forestry or related environmental field; or college junior or senior studying the same
Requirements:
  • Must be based in the US and have authorization to work in the US
  • Mandatory consistent and reliable access to highspeed internet to ensure timely interpretation of the images
Skills:    
  • Familiarity with
  • Interpretation of satellite imagery, especially for use in forestry or land management
  • Use of GIS
  • Excellent computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheets
  • Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written
Payment: $18-20 per hour depending on experience
