Employee Benefits Investigator (Student Intern)

To be eligible for appointment to this position, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying academic institution at time of appointment, and must maintain such enrollment throughout duration of appointment.

The Investigator position provides direct support and assistance to higher level investigators and managers and conducts research on policy, program, and case related issues and questions, and gathers and evaluates data relevant to specific cases. Investigator's plan, direct, and administer a program of enforcement to ensure maximum compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and criminal provisions of the U.S. Code as they relate to employee benefit plans.

Major duties include but are not limited to the following:
Reviews and analyzes multiple types of documents and reports of investigation for legal and evidentiary sufficiency and conformity with national enforcement policy. Records this data in appropriate database, with supervisory/senior investigator assistance.

Researches policy, program issues, and questions that have been raised. Searches for and identifies relevant court cases, precedents and opinions, and other cases. Analyzes materials and reports findings; with supervisory/senior investigator assistance.

Participates in conducting investigations. Includes analysis and gathering of evidence, and use of investigative techniques; with supervisory/senior investigator assistance.

Reviews and provides comments on the proposed operating plans. Identifies legal or administrative issues; with supervisory/senior investigator assistance.

Conducts research, collects and develops data reports on enforcement program, administrative operations and accomplishments of the office; with supervisory/senior investigator assistance.
